BELLEVILLE – A Belleville roadside check program stopped 420 cars Wednesday night.
The program caught two drivers who were issued warnings after breathalyzer tests for alcohol. The vehicles of both motorists were towed and their driver’s licences suspended for three days.
Another driver attempted to avoid the RIDE program, police report. The car was stopped and police discovered that the motorist was driving with a suspended licence. The vehicle was towed and the driver will appear in traffic court in January on a charge of driving with a suspended licence.
In a separate incident at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, police spotted a vehicle speeding on North Front Street and recognized as a driver as someone whose licence had been suspended. The 22-year-old Belleville man’s car was impounded for 180 days. He is to appear in court in January.
