Licence-plate tracking system used to catch vehicle
By Brock Ormond
BELLEVILLE – Central Hastings OPP used a new licence-plate tracking system to its advantage on Wednesday morning.
At 11 a.m., a police cruiser using the Automated Licence Plate Recognition system stopped a vehicle travelling on Highway 7 in Madoc Township that was identified as having an expired validation sticker.
The tracking system automatically scans licence plates and checks a database to determine if they are expired or stolen. It also checks to see if the registered owner’s driver’s licence is suspended.
The 24-year-old male driver was charged with driving while under suspension, driving with no insurance, and driving with a non-authorized plate as a result of the traffic stop.
He will appear in Belleville court in late February.
