Woman charged with impaired driving while infant in car
BELLEVILLE – A Port Hope woman faces multiple charges after police determined she had been involved in a car accident and was driving with an infant in the car while impaired.
The Northumberland OPP stopped the 38-year-old’s white Chevrolet around 3 p.m. last Thursday on Hamilton Road near Dale Road in Hamilton Township because the vehicle showed signs of extensive damage.
Under further investigation, the officer determined that the driver was impaired and noticed a crying infant in the back seat of the car.
The officer concluded that the car had been involved in an accident that had occurred earlier on Northumberland County Road 28 near the Highway 401 interchange. There were no injuries in that accident.
The woman was charged with impaired driving, driving with more than the legal blood-alcohol limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
She was released and is to appear in Cobourg court on Feb. 10.
