Highway 401 stop ends in criminal charges
BELLEVILLE – A Scarborough woman and her passenger from Brampton, Ont., face multiple criminal charges after Napanee Ontario Provincial Police stopped a speeding vehicle on Tuesday morning.
An officer stopped the vehicle, which was westbound on Highway 401 near Napanee, and found a small quantity of marijuana inside. The female driver and male passenger were arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
Police say the 21-year-old woman provided the officer with a false name for the 22-year-old passenger, who was found to be breaching his prior conditions for release from custody.
The woman is charged with obstructing police, two counts of driving under suspension, and speeding. She was released and will appear in court in Napanee on March 1.
The man is charged with two counts of failing to comply with the terms of his previous release from custody. He was held by police and appeared in provincial court in Napanee Wednesday afternoon for a bail hearing.
