Quinte West man charged with impaired driving, assaulting officer
QUINTE WEST – A 47-year-old Quinte West man has been charged with impaired driving and assaulting a police officer.
At about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Quinte West OPP report, they received a call about a possible impaired driver. The caller reported that two cars, one driven by a man and the other by a woman, had collided. The caller said that the two drivers spoke after the accident but did not exchange any information. The crash resulted in damage over $2,000, police say.
A short time later, officers found the vehicle and male driver suspected of having been in the collision. The officers determined that the man had been drinking and driving. They arrested him, but in the process the man assaulted one of the officers, the OPP say.
The officer was not injured.
The man has been charged with impaired driving, assaulting a police officer and failing to give required information. He was released from custody on the promise to appear in court on Feb. 18.
Police say they are also looking to speak with the female driver involved in the accident.
