BELLEVILLE – The Quinte Saints hosted the St. Theresa Titans Wednesday night for a spot in the Bay of Quinte basketball finals Saturday night.
The Titans were tested early in the first half with constant pressure on their star player Jared Callahan. The Saints forced the ball out of Callahan’s hands for a majority of the first half.
The rest of the Titans weren’t prepared for the defensive pressure the Saints were playing in the passing lanes. Forcing the Titans to turnover the basketball and converting easy fastbreak layups helped the Saints jump out to an early blowout lead, and from there, they never looked back.
The score was 60-23 at halftime. The second half belonged to Saints point guard Jack Whitley, who dictated the pace of the half. Hitting flashing players and cutters with passes for easy shots.
Whitley was running the offense as well as scoring his own 24 points leading all scoring. Callahan lead scoring 16 of his teams 37 points.
The Quinte Saints face off against the Nicholson Crusaders Saturday 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul Secondary in Trenton.
