PICTON – Several charges have been laid against a Kingston man following a police chase on Wednesday morning.
Police received a call of a possible impaired driver near Big Island, Prince Edward County. Officers observed the vehicle but the driver drove away. Police say they stopped their pursuit of the vehicle because of safety concerns.
A short time later police got a second call about a stolen vehicle at the Wellington Arena. It turned out to be the vehicle the suspect was driving. The suspect was then seen traveling on the Loyalist Parkway as officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Police say the 29-year-old Kingston man lost control of the vehicle near the Loyalist Parkway and Huycks Point Road intersection. The vehicle stopped in the ditch on Huycks Point Road.
The man was arrested and checked out on the scene by ambulance before being released to the custody of police. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Thursday for a bail hearing.
Road checks were set-up on Highway 62 near Belleville, Highway 33 in Quinte West, and County Road 49 near Tyendinaga Territory at the Glenora Ferry during the investigation. Highways were not closed.
