Cow causes accident on Highway 37

BELLEVILLE — Something other than a vehicle was found in the ditch following an accident on Highway 37 early Thursday morning: a cow.
It took firefighters, police, paramedics and heavy wreckers to salvage the scene.
Upon arrival, they found a UPS transport with two trailers overturned on the front of lawn of a home. Beside it was a black Angus beef cow that reportedly ran onto the highway and collided with the transport’s cab.
Belleville Fire Chief Mark MacDonald said the transport driver was very fortunate to escape with minor scrapes given the damage done to his vehicle. Wearing a seat belt protected the driver from life-threatening injury, he added.
The cow was not so lucky. It died on scene.
Drivers going through the area shortly after were delayed so the transport and both trailers could be moved.
