Makeover for Palmer Road
One of Ontario’s worst roads is getting a facelift.
Belleville council announced Monday night that Palmer Road, one of the worst roads in Ontario according to a CAA survey, will be totally redone.
Reconstruction will include a new road surface sidewalk on the west side and widening the road to two lanes. It will also include a new water main, which will be funded by residents using it. Existing houses on Palmer Road and Moira Street have the option of tapping into the new water main, for $6,200.
Cobourg Development Services Limited won the bid for the job. It was the lowest of nine tenders the city received. The total amount for the reconstruction will be $2.4 million.
Reconstruction will start in a few weeks and last until October. Traffic will be reduced to one lane throughout the construction period.
