Travel ban protest fills Toronto streets
TORONTO –Thousands of protesters stood in downtown Toronto on Feb. 4 to rally against U.S. President Donald Trump’s ban on people from seven Muslim-majority countries for 90 days.
Almost 5,000 people, according to the organizers’ Facebook page, came to show their support by waving anti-racism signs and chanting.
The ban was suspended by a U.S. judge on Feb. 9.
The protest began at noon and went on until 3:30 p.m. On a cold day, protesters began their march outside the U.S consulate, moving through the downtown core.
Craig Aikin and Ysabelle Pelletier explain why they came out to protest.
“Something needed to be done. Everyone needs to know that they are loved, regardless of who they are or what religion they practice,” Pelletier said.
Coalition Against Islamophobia & White Supremacy was the group in charge of the protest and according to its website it plans on doing much more.
“Let us be vigilant and do whatever it takes to prevent another tragedy from happening,” the group said in a Facebook post last Tuesday.
