Belleville man faces drug charge

BELLEVILLE – A Belleville man faces a drug charge after police say they found him with 300 grams of marijuana.
Belleville police say they stopped two men walking in the area of Coleman and Harriett streets Wednesday afternoon because they thought they recognized one of them as being wanted on an outstanding warrant. As they watched, the officers saw one one of the men discard a backpack. They approached the men and found the backpack, in which they discovered the marijuana, scales and other drug-related items.
“It was a good chunk of marijuana that was found,” Staff Sgt. Rene Aubertin told QNet News. “About six ziplock bags. It’s worth about $1,600.”
The 20-year-old man is charged with breach of probation and possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. He was released on a promise to appear in court in March.
