Cutting edge 3D Video Production coming to Loyalist

Students at Loyalist College can look forward to learning a new medium, with announcement of a cutting edge 3D Video Production program, being offered at the College this fall.

Maureen Piercy, president of Loyalist College, announced the new program on Tuesday at the opening of Headlands New Media Development Organization.

“The college is very proud to announce the establishment of a new program in 3D video production to offered here in Picton,” said Piercy.

MPP Darryl Kramp, and his worship Mayor of Prince Edward County Peter Mertens, joined representatives from Loyalist College, The Headland, Whistle Stop Productions Inc, Panasonic Canada, and Prince Edward/Lennox & Addington community futures development corporation to celebrate the exciting new venture.

Kramp also made an announcement that the federal funding portion will be $100,000 for 3D video equipment.

“This is a classic example of a perfect investment and puts us in the forefront of cutting edge technology,” said Kramp.

Loyalist College is partnering with The Headland and, their key tenant, Whistle stop Productions Inc to make this new program a success.

“We are very pleased that Loyalist College will be providing our expertise as an educational partner to help this incentive succeed,” said Piercy.

The Headland is not- for- profit organization.

“One of our most important goals is fostering skills development, and mentorship with youth in the new media industry,” said Stacy Hatch, executive director of The Headland.

The new program will start in September 2011. It will be an accelerated post-graduate certificate for those who already have a diploma in video, film or television.

The program will teach students the differences in shooting 3D opposed to 2D productions. Students will also learn 3D postproduction editing.

“While there are some similarities of traditional shooting. The 3D format really presents many unique and intriguing challenges,” said John McMahon Vice President of Academic at Loyalist College.

The new 3D Video Production program will be taught at The Headlands office in Picton.
