22-year-old man charged with assault and mischief
BELLEVILLE – Belleville police have charged a 22-year old male with assault and mischief.
Around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, police say they received a 911 call regarding a man who was committing acts of vandalism in the west end side of Belleville. They say the man then made death threats to another individual and then fled on foot in an attempt to evade them.
They say that a few minutes later they received another report about a man who had jumped into an unlocked car and assaulted a female driver while the car was stopped at a stop sign.
Police quickly arrived and arrested the man. It was then determined that he was the same man involved in the earlier incidents.
The 22-year male was arrested and charged with assault, mischief under $5,000, utter threats and two counts of breaching his probation.
The man was held in custody for a show cause hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
