The Belleville Memorial Arena: Past, Present & Future

Memorial Arena Home

The City of Belleville affixed a plaque to the Memorial Arena in October, 2010. The plaque recalls the city's 1946 bylaw which said the arena was named "to commemorate the people who served in the armed forces of his majesty or his majesty's allies" during the Second World War.

The Memorial Arena, one of Belleville's most well-known landmarks, is at the heart of a city-wide debate.

Once home to the Belleville MacFarlands (winners of the 1959 World Cup Championships), the Memorial has hosted countless hockey games, played by amateurs and professionals alike.

Since a refrigeration unit problem in December of 2010 led to the closure of the arena, a subcommittee has been formed to manage the arena's future.

The purpose of this site is to inform Belleville residents about the Memorial Arena: it's Past, Present and Future.

The Past section of the website provides an historical timeline of the arena, compiled by the Belleville Intelligencer.

In the Present section, you will find a collection of news stories from various sources about the arena.

The Future section provides a way to contact members of the Memorial Arena subcommittee directly and a link to join a conversation about the arena.
